Accessibility

Automated baseline current as of May 2026 · Full manual audit scheduled for the W5 pre-launch window (Jun 15–21, 2026)

Our Commitment

Nebula Novel is a writing tool for novelists — people whose job, in one sense, is language. A tool for writers that cannot be used by writers with disabilities is a tool that has failed at its own premise. We aim for WCAG 2.2 Level AA across this marketing site, the signup flow, and (once released) the Cloud app. Where we fall short, we say so below, and we commit to fixing it.

Conformance Status

This site is intended to conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. "Intended to conform" means we have audited against the standard, we track known gaps, and we remediate on a published schedule.

Our continuous automated audit against axe-core 4.11.3 currently reports zero violations across 23 page-and-theme combinations (every shipped page in both paper and midnight themes, plus the soft-landing page for non-US visitors). Scans are blocking on every deployment to the live site — if axe finds a violation, the deploy aborts.

Beyond the automated baseline, a full manual conformance review — keyboard-only navigation, screen-reader passes with NVDA / JAWS / VoiceOver, real-device mobile testing, and 200% zoom — is scheduled for the W5 pre-launch window (Jun 15–21, 2026). This page will be updated with findings.

How We Test

A combination of automated and manual checks, described in full in our internal design-docs/accessibility.md:

  • Automated: axe-core, pa11y, and Lighthouse a11y category, run before every merge and on every deploy.
  • Manual: keyboard-only navigation, screen-reader testing with NVDA (Windows) and VoiceOver (macOS), 200% zoom, OS-level reduced-motion and high-contrast modes, and colour-vision simulation for protanopia, deuteranopia, and tritanopia.
  • Contrast: every foreground/background pair in our design system is computed against WCAG thresholds. The palette itself has usage rules — for example, decorative purple ornaments are colour-exempt but label text must clear 4.5:1.

Known Limitations

We publish known gaps rather than pretend they do not exist. The following items are on our remediation log:

  • Touch targets on mobile FAQ summaries may fall below the WCAG 2.5.5 recommended 44×44 pixel minimum on narrow viewports. Scheduled for the W5 pre-launch pass (Jun 15–21, 2026).
  • Focus ring in the footer context passes WCAG 1.4.11 at 3.0:1 — a tight pass rather than a comfortable one. A scope-specific override is planned for the W5 pre-launch pass.
  • Full manual screen-reader pass across NVDA / JAWS / VoiceOver has not yet been completed. Automated scans don't catch everything those tools surface; this is on the W5 remediation log.
  • Alpha-preview gate (coming-soon.html) requires JavaScript and an access code. It is not a public surface; it will be removed at the public soft launch (2026-06-30) and replaced with normal site access for everyone.

Report an Issue

If you encounter an accessibility barrier — something that stops you reading, navigating, or completing a task on this site — we want to hear about it. Email accessibility@nebulanovel.com with a brief description of what you were trying to do, what happened, and the device / browser / assistive technology you were using. We aim to respond within 3 business days and, where feasible, to ship a fix within two weeks of confirmation.

If the barrier prevents a commercial transaction (signing up, subscribing, downloading), flag that so we can prioritise it accordingly.

Formal Complaints

Some jurisdictions provide formal complaint mechanisms. If email to us has not resolved your issue, you may wish to contact:

  • United States: U.S. Department of Justice ADA complaint portal.
  • European Union: your national accessibility enforcement body under the European Accessibility Act (varies by member state).
  • United Kingdom: the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

Coda

Accessibility is not a one-time compliance exercise. It is a maintenance discipline — like editing prose, or proofreading a galley. This page will change as the site changes. If the date at the top of this page is more than six months old, please tell us.
